Synopsis
Enter a world where magic can't save you.
John Constantine wakes up in the eerie House of Mystery with no recollection of how he got there. Fortunately, Zatanna and his friends are all there. Unfortunately, they have a bad habit of turning into demons and ripping him to shreds, over and over again!

Thank you for letting me enjoy Matt Ryan and Camilla Luddington as Constantine and Zatanna once again.

Constantine: The House of Mystery (2022). This made me feel like I was dealing with a video game where my character keeps dying but continues playing anyway because the VGM goes really hard. Respawn and die, then repeat until it reaches the godforsaken game-over frame.

Review by Mister Cap ★★★

constantine is a great character with potential and how much longer will it take for dc to realize that? he's a piece of shit with magical abilities, he's perfect in every way!

Woe to you, John Constantine.
Gotta admit, I loved it when John literally says "What's all this, then?" at one point. I forgive him for being British. Added this to my watchlist awhile back because, like most of these DC animated movies, it seemed like a decent enough time filler. Turns out, that's absolutely what it was. Has a weak start, but as it went further along, I was actually pretty into the direction it ended up taking. Begins as just a straightforward one-off story where you get to see John go through his own personal Hell ala Groundhog Day, dying over and over at the hands of those closest to him possessed by demons. Within time, a lot of…

Watched on Blu-Ray
And if a certain fan theory that says this is actually a continuation of the DCAMU instead of the soft reboot it promised is true (hence the appearance of John Constantine), it’s going to feel like I’ve been hoodwinked in real time.
-Me, 29th January 2024, reviewing Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part OneI had a plan to open up the part two review with this, do it as some clever subtle nod to how its predecessor spent a giant chunk of its runtime to get to the actual Crisis story (don’t worry, I thought of a better way to open it up), but I feel like now that I’m fully up-to-date with the…

Previously on...The Apokolips Saga
I will never understand how DC refuses to give this fantastic character every animated and live action treatment possible (even if they're as grim as this unexpected coda to the DCAMU is). Matt Ryan clearly loves playing and voicing John and I enjoy every second of his adventures so why not let him keep doing it?

This and the rest of the shorts in the 2021 DC animated showcase (Kamandi: The Last Boy on Earth!, The Losers and Blue Beetle) kind of rule?

It was very cool, first time I watch a DC Comics animation and in just 25 minutes I had more fun than the few movies I've seen. A mix of weird events in a kind of infernal time loop where apparently his actions have consequences. It was too short. And Matt Ryan's accent is really sexy lol, I'll have to watch the others as well as the Keanu Reeves movie I remember enjoying.
